(29 Apr 2016) LEAD IN: A new UK-based tech company is attempting to make the often luxurious and glitzy world of private aviation accessible to mainstream travellers. Stratajet developed a high-tech price comparison website which gathers details and prices on private jets in seconds, rather than requiring potential customers or brokers to manually gather that information. STORY-LINE: When booking a holiday trip, many travellers would expect hiring one of these private jets to be way out of their price range. Not so, according to Jonny Nicol, the founder and CEO of UK-based tech company Stratajet and former pilot. He spent five years developing the algorithms required to deliver what he describes as a "game-changer": Stratajet's private aviation price comparison website. "It's exactly the same way as you would interact with Skyscanner or KAYAK or anything aviation-based price comparison sites," explains Nicol. "It has a few differences, you can go postcode to postcode, not just airport to airport. "But at its heart, you say where you want to go, when you want to go, and it will give you a range of options of different aircraft - some like this one - and it will give you as price, you pay it and away you go." A number of private aviation flights are currently manually handled and calculated by brokers. Stratajet's search engine computes the vast number of variables, including taxes, landing and handling fees, in around ten seconds. A number of logistics, including whether aircraft of particular size can use certain airfields, are also considered. It then delivers a list of flight options, similar in appearance to many flight price comparison websites. Nicol claims that by also allowing travellers to search so-called "empty leg flights" - meaning empty private jet flights without any passengers on board - Stratajet is able to offer journeys at a reduced cost. "What we're able to do is make it accessible right now to everybody," he says. "There is obviously a question over cost and by increasing utilisation, by decreasing empty legs - and empty legs are literally just burning fuel for the sake of it - and by using those to move people around, we're able to across the board to not just make it cheaper for the super wealthy to fly privately, but far more importantly, make it possible for your mainstay traveller to fly privately as well." To demonstrate how Stratajet's technology can be used, the Associated Press attended a media trip from near London, UK to the west of Ireland. Passengers flew from Luton Airport, around 50 kilometres (31 miles) north of central London, to Ireland West Airport Knock, around 80 kilometres (50 miles) north of Galway in Ireland. The flight took around 75 minutes. In the space of a few hours, passengers visited Ashford Castle, a luxury hotel in County Mayo, and hopped on board a private boat trip along the picturesque shores of Lake Lough Corrib. Nicol says that by using private aviation, travellers can access a new level of freedom. "We left when we were ready to leave, we flew back when we were ready to fly back," he says. "We weren't beholden to a schedule of an airline, and that is one of the intangibles because we got control of our lives back and I think that's really what Stratajet is all about, it's about freedom of being able to travel without putting our lives in the control of other agencies when we do that." Stratajet joins a collection of online private aviation tools, including Netjets and Jetsmarter. According to Sean Tipton, media relations manager at the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), growing wealth is pushing the private aviation industry to new heights. "At the very top stratum of society, there are people doing very well," he says. But the de Havilland Comet proved that jet travel was the future. When the Comet entered service in 1952, it immediately began breaking travel time records and became a point of national pride for Britain. The de Havilland Comet was perhaps little too ahead of it’s time. With such a clean sheet design, there will still lessons to learn. When early Comets suffered from catastrophic depressurization incidents, the entire fleet was grounded and their Certificate of Airworthiness was revoked. Flaws in the design of the aircraft’s fuselage were resolved in later Comet versions. However, the rest of the world was now catching up, and manufacturers including Boeing and Douglas began to offer their own jet airliners. While later version Comets served airlines reliably, they were outsold by competing aircraft. There's no question However, that the comet paved the way. The British had taken a massive risk and brought the world into the jet age. Thanks for watching! Please Like, Comment and Subscribe!

Produced by British Airways Film Unit, the 1976 TRANSATLANTIC SUPERSONIC is a promotional film for British Airways’ commercial transatlantic flights on the supersonic Concorde jet. The film follows several men and one woman as they depart various locations (Germany, Bahrain, Scotland, and Paris) to travel to the U.S. via Heathrow Airport. The use of British Airways’ supersonic Concorde jet allows these passengers to cross the Atlantic in just over 3.5 hours. The Concorde lands (02:25) in London at Heathrow International Airport, where it waits for passengers to board it before flying to the U.S. The passengers board the Concorde, Flight 579, and enjoy the “club-like” cabin as the jet (08:50) and the flight deck crew (09:21) prepare to depart. The Concorde takes off (09:50) from Heathrow and flies through the sky (10:37) while passengers enjoy the high-end cabin services (10:56). Twenty minutes out of London, the Concorde prepares to reach supersonic speed (12:30); the smooth transition is hardly noticed by the passengers as they Concorde climbs up to its cruising altitude of 57,000 feet (13:18). The jet reaches speeds twice the speed of sound (14:33), before decelerating as it prepares to land at Dulles International Airport (15:53). The Concorde lands (16:31) in just over 3.5 hours, having covered 3,780 miles. Mobile lounges greet the jet (17:05) and take the passengers to the terminal. The film concludes by briefly following the featured passengers on their way to their respective destinations while touting the possibilities created by halving the time it takes to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. The Aérospatiale/BAC Concorde is a British-French turbojet-powered supersonic passenger jet airliner that was operated until 2003. It had a maximum speed over twice the speed of sound at Mach 2.04 (1,354 mph or 2,180 km/h at cruise altitude), with seating for 92 to 128 passengers. First flown in 1969, Concorde entered service in 1976 and continued flying for the next 27 years. It is one of only two supersonic transports to have been operated commercially; the other is the Soviet-built Tupolev Tu-144, which was operated for a much shorter period. Concorde was jointly developed and manufactured by Sud Aviation (later Aérospatiale) and the British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) under an Anglo-French treaty. Twenty aircraft were built, including six prototypes and development aircraft. Air France (AF) and British Airways (BA) were the only airlines to purchase and fly Concorde. The aircraft was used mainly by wealthy passengers who could afford to pay a high price in exchange for Concorde's speed and luxury service. This is the moment a British inventor set the first world speed record for "flying a body-controlled jet engine power suit". Richard Browning set the record over Lagoona Park in Reading on Thursday, November 9. He reached a speed of 32.02 mph (51.53 km/h) on his third and final timed attempt before dropping into the lake, according to the Guinness World Records. An adjudicator was on hand to verify the achievement and make sure that the speed was measured accurately over a minimum distance of… READ MORE : http://www.euronews.com/2017/11/09/watch-british-inventor-sets-jet-suit-world-record What are the top stories today? Early RAF jet planes of the 1940s and 50s. I have not included all of the RAF jets of the 40s and 50s just my favourites starting with the Gloster Meteor the first operational allied jet fighter. The Meteor entered RAF squadron service beginning in July 1944 and was used to intercept German V-1 flying bombs. Meteor IIIs flew to the Continent in January 1945 and operated out of the Low Countries with the 2nd Tactical Air Force until the end of the war in early May 1945. They performed ground strafing attacks there is some war time footage of this shown in the video. The next jets to appear in the video in the order that you see them are the de Havilland vampire also developed during the war but did not see any combat it holds two key distinctions in the history of aviation. It was the first jet-powered aircraft to successfully land on a moving aircraft carrier (the Sea Vampire) and was the first single-jet-powered aircraft in British service. Next the The de Havilland Venom FB.1 went into service with RAF Germany in the summer of 1952. The Hawker Hunter follows that it first entered service with the RAF in July 1954. Then we get into the bombers the first being the English Electric Canberra a really successful design it remained in service with the Royal Air Force until 23 June 2006, 57 years after its first flight. it was also one of the few foreign aircraft to be purchased by the Americans with the designation B57. Then come the V bombers. The Vickers Valiant was the first of the V-bombers and also the first to see combat, during the Anglo-French-Israeli Suez intervention in October and November 1956. Next in the video is the Handley-Page Victor it entered RAF service with Number 232 Operational Conversion Unit (OCU) in November 1957. Although the Victor never fired a shot in anger, it did see action in the tanker role during the Falklands war. The second combat operations of the Victor took place in the first Gulf War. Following Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait. Eight Victors provided tanker support. The Victors flew 229 sorties, providing refueling services for US Navy aircraft along with the RAF fleet. Victors also provided tanker support for air patrols over Iraq into 1993. The last Victor unit, Number 55 Squadron, was disbanded in October 1993. The last aircraft shown in the video is the Avro Vulcan it was the second of the V-bombers to enter service into service with the Number 230 Operational Conversion Unit (OCU) in early 1957. They only saw combat at the end of their service in the Falklands war during the 7 black buck raids which also involved the Victor tankers. The Avro Vulcan performed its last flight in bomber service in December 1982 and as tankers they were retired in the spring of 1984.
